Muscle Building for Weight Loss
Weight training proportionately burns about 25% fewer calories than if you were to say, run on a treadmill for about an hour @ level 5, and this is taking mildly into consideration whether or not you have really challenged yourself during weight training. The beauty of weight training is this: the after effect or after burn. When you train with weights, the only source of fuel available to you is glycogen (sugar). When you train aerobically (with oxygen) you have two sources available to you, fat and sugar. Consider this: Even though you burn more total calories while doing the mild cardio work, weight training and varied anaerobic interval training has more total value because the after effect of both of these activities is that it uses fat as energy well after the activity has ended. Since both of these activities use sugar as the main source of fuel, the only fuel left for use after the sugar has been burned is fat. This is the best strategy for burning fat fast: Challenging weight training & varied interval training.
