5 Important Questions to Ask Yourself to Get to the Bottom of Your Excess Weight

If you struggle with carrying around excess weight, there are 5 important questions you need to ask yourself regarding what the excess weight may represent in your life.I have been a trainer for a great number of years and it is doesn't take long to figure out that most of people's weighty issues centers around emotional issues. Usually it centers around something they are not getting in their lives. Whether it be in their careers, relationships, or in their spiritual lives. For a long time I have always advocated bringing the 3 most important aspects of a person together; the 3 most important aspects together that are important that I feel makes up the whole being of the self: Mind, Body and Spirit. As the industry (health and fitness) moves ever closer to touchy-feely type of training I think it is so important to realize that it is the most important part of becoming who it is you really want to be. In this week, it is Oprah's struggle with her weight (again) that prompts me to write about the 5 most important questions you need to be asking yourself before you begin any weight loss journey, especially in this resolution season.

Before you begin, you need to ask yourself where you are in your level of acceptance of yourself. Once you truly accept yourself, the weight will come off effortlessly. It's not about willpower and never really was. You have failed in the past because of underlying reasons and to get to the bottom of those reasons, you need to start by asking yourself 5 poignant questions (courtesy of the Oprah show):Question 1: What are you really hungry for? [I am certain you realize that this has nothing to do with potato chips, or Reese's Peanut Butter cups. Generally, if you're stuck in a bad relationship, or one that does not communicate, or perhaps a dead end job you have to keep because of the insurance etc.] Question 2: Why are you overweight? [Again, not thinking in terms of food. Get to the bottom of the issues once and for all so you will never have to set another new year's resolution to go on another diet.] Question 3: Why have you been unable to maintain weight loss in the past? Question 4: What in your life is not working? Question 5: Why do you want to lose weight? [Ever reach for a goal, only to obtain it and feel as though it's not really all it's cracked up to be? Thought you'd feel different once you've reached it? Thought it might make you happy but didn't seem to? Losing weight is the same way unless you start with self-acceptance first.] Of course, the depth the answer these questions will take you closer to the true answers. The deeper you go, the closer you will get to the root of the problem. This is where the real work begins. Once you realize that it's not about the food, then you will be on your journey successfully. Otherwise, it will be a constant battle of your bulge.
